With one of our donation pickup team out ill – I could be seen driving the Jubilee Furniture truck on Tuesday. You don’t see many middle aged, gray/white haired ladies driving a truck – so we were an interesting sight! Thankfully, we currently have enough extra guys (for the record, I’d have been just as thrilled to have a woman or two with us as long as they can lift at least 75 lbs. There’s no gender stereotyping at Jubilee Furniture!) so I wasn’t responsible for lifting anything too heavy!
But what I really like about being on the truck is getting to meet our donors face-to-face. Normally, all my interactions are over the phone and I rarely meet a donor – so that was wonderful!
Being on the truck is also a good reminder of how hard our pickup team works. I know that – but to “walk a mile in their shoes” (while lifting/rolling a heavy piece of furniture) brings it into super clear focus!
As much as I enjoyed my day on the truck – I was equally as glad/relieved to meet Arthur yesterday who is filling in for a few days this week and returning next week to cover a scheduled vacation.
So, what did the guys and I pick up? I thought you’d never ask! Let’s take a look (find more inventory at our Furniture Gallery). Since it’s been a bit of a topsy turvy week I started in Bedroom Land when I took photos last night.
lovely twin size Lexington bed with trundle and bunky board on trundle (to be clear – that’s not storage under the bed but pulls out and is another twin size bed) – please note: twin size mattresses are not included in the price. Priced $195. The gently used twin size mattress in my photo is $65
absolutely gorgeous king size Room & Board padded headboard, footboard and side rails. Never been used, I’m sure because of the dip in the top of the headboard (in the last photo). Beautiful gray upholstery. Retails for $1,849. Our price is $495 (I’m not sure why the frame isn’t connected to the headboard – maybe we’re missing hardware?)
and then look at this queen size bed fit for a…king! Lovey details in the wood that these photos simply don’t capture (sorry!). Priced $375
amazing Thomasville dresser with mirror for $175. Matching two drawer nightstands (one is stacked on the other) for $45 each
here’s the backstory on this lovely older bedroom set. It was the donor’s husband’s (who died ten years ago) from when he was younger. The donor’s 74 but had an enthusiasm and sparkle that made her seem much younger. She’s just downsized into a condo and didn’t have room for this spare bedroom set. Though she was sorta sad to see it go – she loved the thought of someone else enjoying it and using it (which I often hear from donors). I LOVE the oak leave/acorn design on the pieces – which include a full size headboard, footboard and side rails for $125; dresser with mirror (the top piece of the dresser does have a split in it) for $125; chest of drawers also for $125
nice white-washed pine dresser from Broyhill – top is laminate. Priced $75
this is a bit of an usual shape for a dresser – part is tall like a chest of drawers and the other side lower like a dresser (but it’s one piece of furniture). In very good condition and by John M. Smithe and includes a mirror. Priced $65
very, very good condition table with two leaves, six chairs and table pads (I really like the upholstery on the chairs and it looks to be very clean). Priced $145. I did notice some of the wooden screw covers were missing (know what I mean?)
another GORGEOUS Room & Board sectional. This is a FIVE piece (which gives you more flexibility when arranging it and makes it easier to move) sectional with a left chaise. I’m fairly sure it’s this one (note chunky feet, loose pillow back, arm and back shape) which retails for $5,696 (but is only a four piece). Our price is $995. Large square leather ottoman is now 40% off original price and down to $39
sweet side chair for $85
wonderful Lloyd Flanders outdoor patio set (was on a covered patio – so in excellent condition) which includes: sofa for $125; loveseat for $95; chairs for $85 each (and there are two of them); round coffee table with glass top for $75
two unusual bamboo side chairs in very good condition priced $125 each
I was so busy trying to figure out why there was duct tape on the corner of this cool trunk that I failed to note the price (maybe $75?)! To prove I’m not completely losing it – the tape is there because the metal corner guard is sticking out a bit and rather sharp – so the duct tape is holding it in place (not sure if you could hammer it back into it’s proper place but I’d certainly give it a go if it were my trunk)
very nice sofa with contrasting piping priced $195
excellent condition chairs and ottoman picked up from a donor who lives alone in a lovely apartment (an advantage of me physically being on the truck is I can give you details like that!). One chair with the ottoman is $155. The second chair (with no ottoman) is $125
lovely light sliver/icy blue sofa by Schweiger priced $95 (in very good condition)
FABULOUS sectional – both ends recline in a great taupe micro-suede fabric and in excellent condition. With sectionals like this it’s really hard to tell how many pieces it breaks down into (sorry!). Priced $195 and this one won’t last long
remember last week’s 10’ x 13’ Persian, hand-knotted wool rug for $895? Some very smart shopper scooped it up so we brought out this one. Same excellent condition. More reds in this one. Also picked up directly from the cleaners where it had been cleaned and stored (again, can’t thank this donor enough for the amazing donation!). Same $895 price tag as last week’s too
and we’ll end with this single photo of a blue denim slip covered chair with contrasting piping which is in good condition and priced $45 (why I didn’t take a second photo like I normally do is anyone’s guess!)
If you, dear reader, ever see a gray haired lady driving the Jubilee Furniture truck – give me a wave and a wide berth! Haha!
